Ukrainians Celebrate the New Year

More than 100 Ukrainian refugees living across New Hampshire gathered in Exeter on January 14 to celebrate New Year’s Day with a potluck meal and games for the kids.  BCNH staff members Kateryna Nazarova and Liliya Mayevsky organized the event on the Julian Calendar date when Ukrainians traditionally mark the new year.  Some wore “Stand with Ukraine” shirts or the national emblem.   Many met each other for the first time.  Back home, of course, Russian shells continue to destroy homes and families.

BCNH provides Ukrainians with the same services we provide refugees from other countries: help finding employment, health care, housing, English classes, and driver’s licenses.  Occasionally, we help them connect with each other and celebrate.
