Changing Communities

In Manchester, we talk about “waves” of immigrants who have settled here over the last 200 years: the Irish, French Canadians, Greeks, Hispanics, Bosnians, Bhutanese, Congolese, and so on, arriving in rhythms determined by global economies, national policies, and job opportunities. In just the last two years, smaller waves are discernable, as shown in the accompanying graph which illustrates how our client base has changed with influxes of people from Ukraine (the orange band) and Haiti (light green).

The 529 people represented in the graph live all over New Hampshire and have come from all ove rthe world, including Afghanistan (dark green), Congo (dark blue), Bhutan (light blue ), and the Rohingya regions of Myanmar (fuscia).
